The goal of the Phoenix Birthing Project’s Working Wonders program is to increase the number of African American children
in Phoenix being born and raised in healthy environments by enhancing the parenting skills among pregnant and parenting teens and adults.

Participants in our Working Wonders classes learn about:
• what to expect during pregnancy, labor, and delivery, and receive support information to assist them with having a healthy and safe birth outcome

• infant care, child development, and child safety to assist them with their parenting responsibilities.

• healthy discipline techniques that do not hurt children but are effective in controlling their behavior

The Working Wonders program is funded through a grant from the Arizona Commission on Drugs; School Based Parenting Initiative.
We use the Common Sense Parenting curriculum, which is a scientifically tested curriculum, and have adapted it to the needs of pregnant teens and parents of infants under one year of age.

Classes are offered at school settings and at community sites. The program provides child care, incentives, and transportation assistance. Classes are taught by qualified instructors and are designed to be fun and interactive.
